Legal Essay Contest Rules
and
Submission Instructions
3rd Annual Douglas County, Kansas, Legal Essay Contest.
Sponsored by the Douglas County Law Library and Douglas County Bar Association.
Topic for 2010: Constitutional Limits of Search and Seizure in Public Schools: What Should They Be?
Eligibility: Senior students attending a high school located in Douglas
County, Kansas, who will be advancing their formal education after
graduation.
Submission deadline: April 5, 2010.
Rules: The essay should be between 500 and 1000 words. The essay must be sent electronically in Word format to division4@douglas-county.com. All work must be that of the student. Any quote or cite in the essay must be acknowledged.
The panel judging the essays will not know the names of the students;
therefore, a cover page needs to accompany the submitted essay that
identifies the student and high school, as well as the student’s
contact information. The cover page will be removed and a number
assigned to the essay before it is reviewed by the panel members.
Students must not include any information in the essays that would
identify them.
Notification: The students authoring the top three essays will be
notified no later than April 21, 2010. Those students will be invited
to attend the Law Day Luncheon on May 3, 2010.
Consent to Publish: By participating, the winners give permission to
the Douglas County Law Library to publish their essays in its
newsletter and on its website.
